What a wash out

Well her majesty couldn’t have picked a worse day for a flotilla of boats down the Thames could she? Hope she’s wearing her thermals, hope everyone’s wearing their thermals…

I’ve been reading Indigo Dream’s adventure on their blog, and Neil’s updates. The atmosphere there must be great, but the weather must be a dampener (excuse pun)…

Last night we went to a beer festival in the village, the music was awful to the point of depressingly morbid. So we sat outside in the relative balminess of 14 degrees with no wind to speak of, and tried to have a good laugh…

But dreary me, we ended up inside were they were playing Wonderwall by Oasis and other 80’s / 90’s rock. (More like it). If that had been what they were playing outside – well it would’ve been a whole other story…!

So we walked back to the boat at 10pm, and just as we arrived the the heavens opened. Hey we times something right for once!!! For everyone still at the beer festival the weather had turned sour to match the music…

There was some fun to be had before we set off, three boats appeared, the first two had crews that were, let’s say “well plastered.” The latter of the two boats found a mooring further down and tried to get in, while the other drunken boat waited beyond it – I suspect because they thought he might fall overboard…

Seeing as they were ALL howling laughing, this was the scene:

It was at this point a sober narrowboat started coming from the other side. The guy at this end did a good job of holding steady (and sober). In fact all this farting about went on for so long another boat must’ve got in on the act, which meant us onlookers lost track of events. If you look closely, the one taking off in the second photo isn’t the same as the one across the canal in the first photo. Complex stuff eh…?

Eventually the drunken boat gave up and decided to move on. by this time everyone was outside tittering. Not long after that another even more “drunken boat” came along and managed to moor up successfully, even if it wasn’t pretty to watch…

When we walked past later on the BBQ was on the go, and so was even more booze…

Right well I’m off to watch the flotilla on TV, sorry ma’am – all our flags have curled up in the rain…
