Treading Water

Heard it on the grapevine

Well of course we’ve told friends on our pier that TT is up for sale, {shock till realisation sets in and is understood}. Went through that stage about a month ago. However, our friends are not gossips, they’ve got better things to do.

YET, we’ve discovered that word has got round even this BIG marina. It’s not a big deal, that’s what we want, so we’re left wondering how the jungle drums work when:

  • We’re not allowed to display any “FOR SALE” signs, because we’ve gone with a brokerage that isn’t based here.
  • Even if (anyone) displayed their intention with “FOR SALE” signs plastered all over their boat, there’s only other marina dwellers would see them.

So we still don’t know! There’s various people off other piers have mentioned something like: “Heard TT is up for sale then?” Some even know we’re moving to Spain. Well come on, not everyone reads my barmy blog do they?

Laughed my head off when I asked someone how they knew, and the reply was “I’d have to kill you first!”  (Yes, ok we’ll leave it at that then).

Thing is, during our time living aboard a wide beam boat, we’ve had lots of friends (who live on narrow boats), come aboard TT, and have literally fallen in love with her at first sight.

The second (mind blowing) reason for them is the realisation they’ve made a big mistake, bought a narrow boat with the intention of cruising the system. But for various reasons can’t and wish they had the space instead.

To be honest, we’ve heard many background stories, it’s been obvious those reasons were “in the way” before their lifestyle of choice. They had a dream that took over the Pros & Cons of the life assessment thingy I’ve talked about before. We’ve seen it time and time again in the past, and felt sorry for them that they’d realised this too late. I’ve even felt guilty sometimes when people come aboard this boat, and their regret is laid bare.

One of our friends even asked if we’d do a “swap,” no chance!

Hence, all social events with friends are always held aboard TT at their request. There’s another one coming up tomorrow night, food cooked on a narrow boat, and carried round to this wide beam here…

To be honest, she blew our minds away too on first sight, no regrets since. But it’s time for us to move on, for good.

This isn’t a promo, it’s fact…

  1. It's no secret that you're selling. Even I knew weeks ago and I've never even met you. Think I first heard about it on the BBC, or was on Twitter? Oh, yeah, Twitter. 🙂 Best of luck with you sale and move to Spain. Hope you keep your blog going. Cathy from Wallasey

  2. Hi Cathy,

If I remember correctly the announcement was made on Titter & Farcebook while we were still in Spain.

They were going to take Corry off one night & do an official “address to the nation” thingy. But then someone realised TT wouldn't sit right on the cobbles.

The BBC told us they'd find a slot between Jackanory & The Flowerpot Men. (Which they stopped screening about 40 years ago).

Thanks for your good wishes & yes I'll keep the blog going. Think there's plenty of material for satire in Spain. Did you know all the banks close at 2pm for “siesta time?” I kid ye not. Perhaps they all get bored because there's nowt much to do!!!

    H 🙂
