Clarity Clarified

Philosophical Mode:

I can see clearly now, the rain has gone.

It did so on Monday the 3rd of November 2014, when we packed our bags and flew to a place in the sun…

See through sea…

We get an awesome view of this stretch of water, from both the roof terrace and a balcony outside our master bedroom…

If anyone had told me three years ago we’d own a house in Spain, and be living here amidst such beauty, I’d have thought they were crazy. “Could we really do that? Nah, don’t be daft.”  But we did…

  1. Hello! Ive often wondered how it would be to go live in the sun! I wonder how long does it take to get used to the Spanish way of life? Would you navigate towards other Brits? Or would you learn the lingo and immerse yourself in the Spanish way of life? All these questions have often run through my mind! And yes, l envy the weather! So how are you finding it? Are you English, as Heth sounds like it could be foreign, or is it short for Heather? X

  2. Hi Denise,

Sorry for the late reply, been busy the past couple of days. Yes you're right about my name! Everybody calls me Heth so it's sort of “stuck” over the years! Yes, we're from England, the two countries couldn't be more different when it comes to weather and “demographics” for example the weather. Britain has so much more to spend on flood defences, mending damaged roads, compensation etc, and the government can't afford to do anything about it. These are things that don't happen here, the weather isn't an issue and doesn't cause extensive expensive damage. And that's just one example!

Yes we've found some very good friends of all nationalities. We both intend to learn Spanish and our neighbours are Spanish. We got invited round for a drink and a meal tonight (New Years Eve). Unfortunately we've already made plans with friends.

Getting used to Spanish life is easy, so laid back. I would advise doing a lot of research first though. We first realised “we could do this” two years ago now. Early this year we bought the house. In November we moved here full time.

Having the right contacts is another important thing.

Surprisingly, tying up life in the UK was much more stressful than buying a house here. Our excellent solicitor took care of all the legalities. Our accountant guided us through the buying process itself. And we know the estate agents, man and wife team. They passed on bucket loads of advice to us.

So here we are, away from the rat race, both retired and very happy. There's so much freedom here, it's cosmopolitan and everybody gets along with each other. We've now settled nicely into the community.

And there's a few of us getting together tonight for New Years Eve.
    Friends are like family here.

Hope that's answered a few questions! I can't think of anything negative to say at all. We have beauty all around us, hills and mountains behind us, and the Med in front. We're about 3 miles back from the coast and up a hill.

Oh and it's so peaceful here..
