The figeater beetle

Having lived here for over five years we´ve encountered many critters and easily recognise the most “famous” ones. But sometimes when a mystery visitor appears, the first reaction is “does it bite?”

  • Run for your life.
  • Stay still and don´t move.
  • Get out of the way but observe closely.

Sat outside last night minding our own business, we were joined by a flying green “thing.” Instinct told us to go for the stay still and don´t move option. After about ten minutes of buzzing about, it was kind enough to do a photoshoot.

Mr Google told me it´s a figeater beetle, I hope it found a way back home. Unfortunately the name might mean no welcome from crop growing farmers.

Never thought I´d hear myself saying a beetle is cute.
